Current Active Effort: COVID-19 Mask Donations
Thank you to our Members for their generous donations of time and talent!
Since April, members of Harford Artists’ Association Community Outreach program have pulled together to create face protection for the community during the Coronavirus pandemic. So far, the effort has supplied the Gallery with masks for anyone who is in need. We’ve also sent masks to Upper Chesapeake Hospital for cancer outpatients, SARC, Birthright, LASOS, Bel Air Senior community apartment complex, Harford Day School, and Anna’s House. Over 800 masks have been made and distributed!
We will continue making masks as long as there is a requirement for face protection during the pandemic. Please consider sewing masks, or donating fabric (100% cotton, such as quilting material), thread, or elastic to HAA’s community outreach project. These simple items have been hard to get because stores are behind in stock and ordering online has been a challenge due to a high demand for sewing supplies. Donations can be brought to the gallery on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10-4.
Are you interested in participating or do you know of a Harford County organization in need of masks? Find a pattern from JoAnn’s Fabric Store here and contact Alexandra Kopp at HAAcommunications@artinharford.org to join the effort.

Community Outreach Past Projects & Annual Events
Toys for Tots. The Harford Artists’ Association sponsors a Toys for Tots Drop off point at our Gallery. Local toy collection campaigns begin in October and last until mid to late December. Toy distribution also takes place mid to late December. Members of the community drop new, unwrapped toys in collection boxes positioned in local businesses. Coordinators pick up these toys and store them in central warehouses where the toys are sorted by age and gender. At Christmas, Coordinators, with the assistance of local social welfare agencies, church groups, and other local community agencies, distribute the toys to the less fortunate children of the community. Read more about the Toys for Tots program on their website at, https://www.toysfortots.org/Default.aspx
Festival of Trees. The Harford Artists’ Association offers judges for the donated trees and donates a decorated wreath for the auction. The Festival of Trees is a 2-day event during which donated, decorated trees, wreaths, and gingerbread houses are sold through silent auction. Activities and shopping for all ages. All proceeds are donated to Cancer Life Net at the Kaufman Cancer Center. Read more about past Festival of Trees events sponsored by the Chesapeake Cancer Alliance on the Upper Chesapeake Hospital Foundation’s website at, http://www.uchfoundation.org/
Art Lessons for Families in Need. Harford Artists’ Association Members have donated art supplies and taught children art lessons at the Harford Family House. The Harford Family House is the largest provider of transitional housing for families with children experiencing homelessness and unaccompanied adults ages 18-24 in Harford County. [They] are among the only organizations in Harford County capable of keeping an intact family, including father, together during the crisis of homelessness.
